The Baalwadi at Appapada stands as a testament to the power of compassion and collective effort. Initiated through a collaboration between the UBM Church Council, Mumbai, and the YMCA, this initiative is dedicated to nurturing and educating the young children of Appapada, Malad.
A New Beginning with Hope and Joy
With hearts full of gratitude and joy, we reopened the UBM Appapada Baalwadi for the academic year 2025. The reopening was not just about beginning another school year—it was about planting seeds of hope in the lives of little children from the Appapada community.
The UBM Outreach Team, including pastors and leaders from various UBM churches, spent meaningful time with the children and teachers—singing songs, listening to their stories, and sharing moments of laughter and learning. It was a touching reminder of the power of presence and love.
One of the highlights of the day was the distribution of essential school supplies—each item lovingly sponsored by our extended UBM family:

A Response to Crisis
In 2023, a devastating fire swept through Appapada, leaving many families with nothing but despair. In response, the UBM Church Council, with the unwavering support of its 14 churches across Mumbai, rallied together to raise funds and provide relief to the affected community. Recognizing the critical need for children’s education and care, the Church took a step further and established the Baalwadi, ensuring that the children of Appapada had a safe space to learn and grow.
Commitment to Education and Care
Today, the Baalwadi provides education and holistic care to around 40 children, offering them a nurturing environment while their parents engage in labour and work to rebuild their lives. The UBM Church Council, Mumbai, fully supports this initiative, covering all operational needs, including the salaries of dedicated teachers who impart knowledge and values to the little ones.
At the Baalwadi, we believe that every child deserves an opportunity to learn, dream, and aspire for a better future. With the continued support of the Church and the community, we remain committed to empowering these young minds through education, care, and love.
