The Lord is our Light and our Salvation
During the 1960’s around 20-30 families belonging to the Vikhroli presbytery had settled down in Thane. In the year, 1968 Sunday School was started in one of the houses in Thane. In addition to it prayer meeting were organized on weekends. As the congregation members started growing, there was a need of regular Sunday worship service in Thane. Mr. Gopal Walawalkar from an illustrious Hindu family in thane had a large structure in Damani Estate. Mrs. Louisa W Soans, a close family friend of theirs approached them for a place to worship. He willingly gave the place for couple of years free of cost. It was on March 28th 1993, that Rev. G.C. Karkada conducted the first Divine worship service in Kannada in Damani Estate.
In the year 1996, the Church council bifurcated the Thane Presbytery from Vihroli presbytery, elections were held in March 96’ and the first Presbytery members gave leadership to the Thane congregation. The installation of the first Presbytery was held in April 1996 under the leadership of Rev. G. C. Karkada as Presbyter-in-charge.
The worship continued in Damani estate for the following years until a need for a better worship place arrived. Funds were raised by different means from every wing of the Church and by individual donors. It was on 26th April 1998, the Building Committee was formed and on 26th Feb 2001 a shed measuring 5700 sq ft in Majiwada was purchased by the Church council.
Today, the beautiful church building stands tall with 174 families worshipping the Lord from the city of Thane. We have both English and Kannada services and in addition to it, we have regular Hindi Service every Sunday at 7 pm.
