“Worship the Lord in the beauty of Holiness.” – 1 Chronicles 16:29
The journey of the Malad Church dates back to 1974 when Rev. H. S. Wilson and Rev. J. J. Amanna met the spiritual needs of the congregation through house visits and regular prayer meetings conducted in the homes of those living in the area. In 1976, Rev. J. S. Shatananda took the charge of the congregation. During these years, the Western suburbs as it was then popularly known, continued to be under the Presbytery of the U.B.M Sushanthi Church, Byculla.
The desire of the congregation and initiation of the Pastors resulted in the first Sunday worship service of the U.B.M. Western Suburbs which was held on 10th April 1982, at the Y.W.C.A. Andheri (West) by Late Rev. Godwin Vedamuthu. His inspiring message exhorted every member of the congregation to work as a team for the glory of God. In February 1984, an independent Presbytery was formed. Thereafter, in 1984, the first Christmas Service was conducted on the lawns of Bhavan’s College.
In 1985, the Church Building Committee was prayerfully formed and enthusiastic members were inducted to identify a suitable place. Rev. S. Gladson Maben took charge in 1986. With the initiative of the presbytery, they were able to purchase a parsonage at Andheri. In 1995, Divine Worship Services commenced at the St. Xavier’s Technical Institute, which was later shifted to St. Lawrence High School, Borivali for the members residing in and around Borivali due to the difficulty of travelling all the way to Andheri.
After 18 years of constant prayer, hard work, generous contributions and teamwork, the Sovereign Lord provided us with a beautiful church, which was christened the U.B.M. Vishranthi Church. This Church stands as a symbol of the unwavering efforts of the Pastors and Members of the congregation and the fulfilling of long-cherished dreams and a great vision of the faithful members.
Rt. Rev. Dr. C.L. Furtado (Bishop C.S.I. – K.S.D.) dedicated the U.B.M. Vishranthi Church, Malad, on 10th December, 2000 for the glory of God. From then onwards, God has blessed the Church immensely. The Church has only grown from strength to strength in every way. English Services are held every 1st & 3rd Sunday of the Month and Kannada Services are conducted every 2nd, 4th and 5th Sunday of the Month.
