Ella held the shattered pieces of the glass angel ornament in her hands, her eyes filling with tears. It had been her mother’s favorite, a family heirloom passed down for generations. Now, just days before Christmas, it was broken.
Her grandmother noticed her sadness and sat beside her. “Do you know why your mother loved that angel so much?” she asked gently. Ella shook her head, clutching the fragments.
“She said it reminded her of God’s love,” her grandmother explained. “The angel was a messenger of the greatest news—the birth of Jesus, who came to mend what is broken.”
“But it’s ruined,” Ella whispered. Her grandmother smiled and said, “It’s not ruined. It’s a reminder. Just like this ornament can be repaired, our hearts can be too. Jesus came to heal us, to restore hope when we feel broken.”
They spent the evening carefully piecing the ornament back together. Though it wasn’t perfect, Ella noticed the cracks gave it a unique beauty. As they placed it on the tree, the light from the room danced through the repaired glass, casting a soft glow.
Ella smiled, realizing the ornament was now even more meaningful—a reminder that Jesus came to bring light and hope to our imperfections.
Message: Why Jesus is the Reason for the Season
Christmas is a celebration of God’s love for a broken world. Just as Ella’s ornament was restored, Jesus came to restore us—to heal our hearts, mend our spirits, and fill us with hope. His birth was not just an event but a promise: “He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners” (Isaiah 61:1).
On that first Christmas night, the angel declared, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; He is the Messiah, the Lord” (Luke 2:10-11). This news is timeless—it reminds us that God’s love reaches us wherever we are, no matter how broken or lost we feel.
Jesus didn’t come into a perfect world. He came into a humble stable, showing that His love is for everyone, especially those who feel unworthy. As Psalm 147:3 says, “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.”
Christmas is a time to reflect on the miracle of God’s grace. Through Jesus, we are offered peace, forgiveness, and a relationship with Him. As John 1:14 says, “The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.”
Let this season remind you that no matter how broken life may feel, Jesus came to make you whole. His love fills every crack with light, turning our pain into beauty. “Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!” (2 Corinthians 9:15). Jesus is not just the reason for the season—He is the reason we have hope, joy, and everlasting peace.
