Deuteronomy 6:7 admonishes us, “You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.” The U.B.M. Sunday School Ministry across the U.B.M. Churches, strives to adhere to this call and instruction from Scripture.
Across the 14 Churches there are over 390 Children, over 105 Teachers and 16 Volunteers who are actively involved in the Sunday School Ministry. The Sunday School has been conducting regular Bible Lessons and activities, making the Sunday School experience for all the children enriching and inspiring.
The Sunday School Children have been actively involved in the various Church activities and programmes, such as leading of Praise & Worship, Special Songs during Festivals, social visits to Orphanages during Festivals, Memory Verse Recitations during Services, Special programmes during the World Sunday School Day, participation in the Harvest Sports and many other special activities and programmes.
A Teachers Workshop was conducted on Sunday, 17th March, 2024 at the U.B.M. Sushanthi Church, Byculla. Sis. Jasmine Joseph was the Resource person for the Workshop. Around 90 Teachers attended the Workshop, which was very informative and helped Teachers gain creative skills and activities to present the Bible Lessons more effectively and leave a lasting impression in the minds and hearts of their children.
On Sunday 9th June, 2024 activities Age Group wise was conducted on a Local level, which were as follows: Beginners – Colouring, Primary – Bookmark with Bible Verse,
Juniors – Photo Frame with Bible Verse, Inters – Wall Hanging with Bible Verse/Psalm and Seniors – Composition Via Picture. The Age Group wise competitions were well participated and Winners were locally awarded prizes.
The highlight of the year was the Spectra 2024, which was being held after a gap of almost 9 Years (2015). Spectra was held on Saturday 7th September, 2024 to Sunday 8th September, 2024 at the U.B.M. Sushanthi Church, Byculla. There was an over-all participation of over 260 Children, who were divided into 5 Age Groups and who participated in both Individual and Group Events, organized in 6 different Venues within the premises. There were over 8 Individual Competitions and 5 Group Competitions, under which the contestants participated, such as singing, instrumental, art, mono-act, choreography, skit and so on. Children received Individual Trophies for their solo presentations and Groups received Team Trophies and Certificates. The Over-all Team Champions for SPECTRA-2024, were as follows: 1st Place – U.B.M. Christa Karunya Church, Dombivili; 2nd Place – U.B.M. Christha Shanthi Church, Marol and 3rd Place – U.B.M. Bethel Church, Ambernath.
Around 19 Teachers attended the Sunday School Teachers Workshop organised by the K.P.C.A. on Saturday 19th October, 2024 at the U.B.M. Sushanthi Church, Byculla. The Theme of this Workshop is drawn from Colossians 1:16 – “Creative Learning from a Creative God” and the Resource person was the renowned children’s ministry pioneer Rod Gilbert.
All Sunday Schools are very enthusiastically gearing up for their Annual Sunday School Christmas programme which will be held during the month of December.
